Southwest Airlines Flight 1380 Engine Failure

Plane Lands Safely After Engine Explodes

Passengers Describe Terrifying Ordeal

A Southwest Airlines flight from New York City to Dallas was forced to make an emergency landing in Philadelphia on Tuesday after one of its engines exploded mid-air.

Flight 1380 was about 20 minutes into its journey when the left engine failed. Passengers reported hearing a loud bang and seeing smoke and flames coming from the engine. A gust of shrapnel blew out a window, partially sucking a woman out of the plane.

The pilot quickly turned the plane around and landed it safely at Philadelphia International Airport. All 149 passengers and crew members were evacuated safely.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident. Southwest Airlines has issued a statement saying that it is cooperating with the investigation and that the safety of its passengers and crew is its top priority.
